ISKANDAR PUTERI: A 31-year-old Singaporean man was killed after his motorcycle crashed into a car making a U-turn at KM1.4 of the Second Link highway near here.
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the accident occurred at 12.20am on Saturday (June 8).
"The car was driven by a 40-year-old man who was involved in road repair works at KM1.6 of the highway and was trying to return to KM20 heading north.
"The victim suffered a serious head injury and was pronounced dead at the location," he said in a statement Saturday.
The body has been taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a postmortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act of 1987, he said.
In an unrelated case, a 35-year-old Vietnamese woman drowned after falling into Sungai Johor from the Johor River Bridge towards Desaru, Kota Tinggi.
Bandar Penawar Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Mohd Hazmi Zulkafli said the department received a distress call from a friend of the victim at 5.19pm on Saturday.
"The department conducted a surface water rescue within a 2km radius of where she had fallen in. The body was later found by members of the public 500m metres from where she was last seen," he said.
The search and rescue operation was also joined by the police, marine police, and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said the police have received a report regarding the incident and that the case is being investigated as a sudden death report (SDR).
