KL cops to focus attention on 12 locations around the city
KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic offenders beware – the police are coming for you via an operation codenamed “Ops Respect Traffic Laws” (Ops HUU), which kicked off on June 4 and will run until June 15.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said 111 senior police officers and 1,401 personnel are involved in the operation.
“We will be strict with enforcement as we want all to obey traffic laws and regulations – not just for their own safety, but others as well,” he said, adding that the operation also involved Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
ACP Sarifudin said the operation is focused on 12 locations around the city – the junctions at Jalan Dewan Bahasa/Jalan Hang Tuah, Jalan Sultan Ismail/Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Sultan Ismail/Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Sultan Ismail/Jalan Raja Abdullah and Jalan Sultan Ismail/Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
Also on their radar would be the intersections at Jalan Dang Wangi/Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Puduraya/Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Sultan Ismail/Jalan Imbi, Jalan Sultan Ismail/Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Sultan Ismail/Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail/Jalan Raja Laut and Jalan Tun Perak/Jalan Raja.
“Besides safety, the operation is also important to ensure smooth traffic even during peak hours,” he said.
ACP Sarifudin added that police would be looking out for traffic obstruction, illegal mobile phone use, traffic light offences and speeding.
As of Friday, ACP Sarifudin said 13,138 traffic summonses had been issued in the first four days of the operation at several locations in the city.
He said the most common offences were traffic obstruction/illegal parking with 9,852, stopping at pedestrian walkways (707), not having a licence (329) and expired road tax (216).
ACP Sarifudin said police also detained 30 people and seized two motorcycles and a lorry.
