Star Education Fair 2024 saw the participation of universities nationwide eager to showcase study programmes


GEORGE TOWN: The Star Education Fair 2024 has once again become a beacon of opportunity, attracting not only students and school leavers seeking to pursue tertiary education but also colleges and universities eager to showcase their top-tier learning experiences.

Held at Setia Spice Convention Centre, the fair offers a wealth of educational prospects, featuring a wide array of institutions and courses designed to cater to diverse academic interests and career aspirations.

Among the exhibitors during the fair was Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) Penang branch, a top management university in the state.

Its deputy branch head Lim Thean Pheng said at TAR UMT, that the university offers a variety of courses, including business management, accounting, finance, investment, computer science, information technology, electronic engineering, built environment, and creative industries such as public relations and broadcast communication.

"School leavers, especially those who have just received their SPM results, can explore our extensive foundation and diploma programs.

"We encourage them to consider our specialised diploma programs to build a strong foundation before progressing to degree courses.

The management and IT lecturer said the university also provides attractive credit transfer options for diploma graduates who want to continue degree programmes.

He said the university also emphasises superior learning experience by offering additional modules to enhance students' skills beyond the classroom.

Sentral College Penang invites students who have completed the SPM examination to explore their core programs, including the prestigious ACCA program, for which the college has held platinum status since 2013.

Its director of marketing Johnny Goh said the college also offers external qualifications through their 3+0 and 2+0 twinning programs, allowing students to study entirely in Penang.

"Join us for our open day on Sunday, June 16, from 9am to 5pm where students and parents can engage in various activities, including profiling to help students determine their study interests, wellness checkups, and blood pressure measurements by a renowned clinic," he said.

A renowned art and design college, The One Academy is also offering several courses to their prospective students.

Its head of business development Khoo Boo Keat said at The One Academy, students are offered five major courses.

"The courses are advertising, graphic design, digital media design, interior design and illustration and digital animation," he said.

Khoo also said the academy is moving to a new campus at Strait Quay.

He said students enrolling in The One Academy can expect a top-notch learning experience.

Another exhibitor Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) also offers various interesting programmes from foundation to post-graduate levels

"Our city campus in Kuala Lumpur provides excellent connectivity to various locations.

"Besides that, we also offer scholarships for those eligible," said the university Institute of Graduate Studies dean Assoc Prof Dr Adam Shukry Ali.

He said students are welcome to check the university website and social media to learn more about the university.

An upcoming technical college ViTrox College which is in the second year of its operation is expecting the first batch of graduates in 2025.

The college head of marketing Chong Swit Yie said the college offers diplomas in engineering, computer science, and business studies, featuring a unique emphasis on practical learning alongside theoretical knowledge.

"Our diploma programs, certified by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), encompass mechatronics, electrical and electronic engineering, computer science, and business studies.

"We also provide complimentary vegetarian lunches and offer merit scholarships based on academic performance, considering a range of grades," she said.

She said students with a CGPA of 3.0 or higher are eligible to join the company as employees, and the college also maintains partnerships with nearby industries for potential job placements.

Meanwhile, at Segi College Penang, the college is promoting its programs in early childhood education, business, engineering, and IT.

The college Student Experience head of department Benedict Tan said the courses are offered for degree, diploma, and certificate levels.

"Throughout June, there will be campus promotions, with Exploration Day and Discovery Day events on weekends. Prospective students can visit by appointment.

"Enrollees will enjoy hands-on learning experiences, such as mock hotel rooms for hospitality students, and can benefit from rebates of up to RM5,000 for diploma registrations," he said.

The Star Education Fair 2024 held side-by-side with the myStar Job Fair 2024 at the convention centre from 11am to 7pm ended on Sunday (June 9).
