Ex-education minister Musa Mohamad laid to rest


PETALING JAYA: Former education minister Tan Sri Musa Mohamad (pic), who died on Saturday, was buried at the Section 9 Muslim cemetery in Kota Damansara here.

His remains were brought to the Kota Damansara mosque yesterday for bathing and shrouding, followed by funeral prayers led by his son-in-law, Mohd Nordin Mat Sah.

Mohd Nordin expressed his gratitude to everyone who assisted in the funeral arrangements, Bernama reported.

Musa, 81, breathed his last at 7.12pm on Saturday at a private medical centre here due to multiple myeloma, or blood cancer.

He was the first non-politician to hold the post of Education Minister from 1999-2004.

Musa was also the former vice-chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia.

He also held several other important posts, including president of the International Organisation of Ministers of Education from 2001 to 2003, chairman of Multimedia University, and chairman of the UCSI University Council.
