GEORGE TOWN: For the past two months, a mobile phone accessory salesman pocketed tens of thousands of ringgit from a side business – selling drugs.
He would buy methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) from a syndicate, repackage it and sell it to small-time drug users who would mix the processed substance with their drinks. Each packet was priced between RM100 and RM200.
Luck ran out for the 24-year-old when police stopped him by the roadside in Air Itam at about 7pm last Friday, ending his two-month operation.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Razlam Ab Hamid said police found a plastic packet containing 1.22gm of ketamine on him during an operation codenamed Op Tapis.
The arrest led police to a bigger discovery at the man’s rented house in Paya Terubong – MDMA worth some RM400,000 in the market.
“We found 121 pink packets of drugs believed to be MDMA. The weight comes to a total of 2,383g, which is worth RM397,960.
“There was also a transparent packet containing 10.94g of ketamine worth RM2,188 and an aluminium foil with two Erimin 5 pills worth RM40.
“The total value of the drugs seized was RM400,428,” he said during a press conference at the George Town police district headquarters yesterday.
ACP Razlam said the man, who acted alone, had been active since April before the arrest.
