SHAH ALAM: The Sessions Court has fixed July 15 for a decision on the representation submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) by the founders and owners of convenience store chain KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd Group.

The representation was filed by founder and executive chairman Datuk Seri Dr Chai Kee Kan and his wife Datin Seri Loh Siew Mui, through their legal team after they were charged in the same court on March 26 with wounding the religious sensitivities of Muslims.

Judge Muhamad Anas Mahadzir also fixed the same date for a decision on the representation by the supplier of the socks, Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, and the company’s three directors, Soh Chin Huat, Goh Li Huay and Soh Hui San.

They were charged under Section 109 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 298, for allegedly abetting the said offence by supplying KK Super Mart with the socks.

Muhamad Anas set the date during the case management and mention proceedings yesterday.

Deputy public prosecutor Khairul Azreem Mamat requested the new date, stating that the AGC had received representation.

“The prosecution is seeking a new date to examine and consider representations,” said Khairul Azreem.

The representation had been submitted by the defence on May 17 and was received by the AGC on May 26.

Chai and Loh were represented by Datuk Rajpal Singh who is being assisted by Datuk David Gurupatham, Datuk RS Sodhi and Datuk Theng Book, while Lau Yi Leong appeared for Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd and its three directors.

Chai and Loh had pleaded not guilty to charged that they had deliberately wounded religious sensitivities of Muslims.

The store chain has been mired in controversy since March 13, when the controversial socks were discovered in the Bandar Sunway outlet.
