Couple held over alleged abuse, death of child

IPOH: A five-year-old girl, suspected of having been abused at Taman Malkop, has died at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun here.

Ipoh district police chief Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said they received a report about the incident at 9.45am on Monday after the child was brought to the hospital for treatment.

He said in a statement yesterday that the victim is believed to be the adopted daughter of a married couple, a 27-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man, who have been arrested.

According to Bernama, the child’s body showed signs of beatings with a blunt object and injuries to her reproductive tract and anus.

He added the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court has issued a six-day remand order for both suspects starting yesterday until June 16th to facilitate an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder with intent.

“Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact ASP Norazlina Rais Ahmad, at 013-628 2176 or come forward to any nearby police station,” said ACP Abang Zainal.
