KUALA LUMPUR: The National Blood Bank needs between 2,000 and 2,200 blood bags daily for some 1,000 patients nationwide.
Its deputy director Dr Tun Maizura Mohd Fathullah said the blood bank aimed to collect between 600 and 700 blood bags daily to be sent to over 80 hospitals.
“We will make full use of the blood donated.
“The blood bank will distribute the blood as and when needed,” she said in her speech during the blood donation drive in Bukit Aman held in conjunction with the 217th Police Day yesterday.
Dr Tun Maizure said the blood bank has received more than 8,000 blood bags from the police force in the last 18 years.
“The strategic partnership with the police force has assisted the blood bank tremendously.
“We appreciate the cooperation shown by the police for the last 18 years in the form of blood donation drives.
“We hope such cooperation will continue as the blood bank needs a sufficient supply of blood for various situations,” she said.
Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the police were always ready to assist the blood bank when it comes to donating blood.
“In the police force, nearly 100% of the officers and personnel have donated blood.
“For today, 400 police personnel and officers are involved in the blood donation drive,” he said in his speech, which was read by Bukit Aman CID deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng.
The IGP said the blood donation drive is proof of close cooperation and collaboration between the police and the blood bank.
“Over the years, this programme has received tremendous support from the police force.
“We will continue to do anything we can to assist the blood bank.
“Programmes such as the blood donation drive are in line with the police’s motto, ‘The police and society are inseparable’,” Razarudin said.
