KOTA KINABALU: An estate worker has been sentenced to 15 years’ jail and 10 strokes of the rotan for raping his stepdaughter over the past three years in Sandakan district.
The 39-year-old Indonesian pleaded guilty to the offence before Sessions judge Zaini Fishir on Wednesday (June 12).
According to the facts of the case, the accused had repeatedly raped the girl, also an Indonesian, since she was 11. She is now 14.
She told her granduncle, mother and uncle about the rapes at around 8pm on May 28.
The granduncle then lodged a police report the following day, after which the accused was arrested.
He admitted to last raping the girl at around noon on May 5 when they were collecting oil palm fruit in the estate.
Investigations revealed that he threatened to kill her mother and siblings if she told anyone about the rape.
Following the report, the girl was taken for a medical examination and tearing was found in her private parts.
It is learnt the accused will be referred to the Immigration Department for further action after completing his jail sentence.
DPP Bryan Francis conducted the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
