Zayn Rayyan's parents to know fate tomorrow


PETALING JAYA: The fate of the parents of murdered autistic boy Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin will be known on Thursday (June 13).

Fahmi Abd Moin - the lawyer representing Zayn’s father - said the second remand period for the child’s parents will end on Thursday and is unlikely to be extended as they have reached the 13-day remand period limit.

“Tomorrow (June 13) is the last day of remand, the 13th day. Tomorrow is the results, I believe that the investigation papers have reached the Attorney-General's Chambers.

“They will review the papers and see if they will be released on bail or be charged. We will wait. Justice will be upheld for the late Zayn Rayyan and his parents,” he said when met at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court lobby.

Zayn Rayyan's parents are currently on a second six-day remand extension which would end on Thursday (June 13).

The couple was arrested by the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department on May 31, and have been remanded to assist the police investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

On Dec 6 last year, the six-year-old Zayn Rayyan was found dead at a stream near Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai.

Based on a post mortem conducted, the six-year old was killed based on injuries found on his neck and body.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Magistrate's Court here recorded an objection by lawyers representing Zayn Rayyan's parents.

When speaking to the press, Lawyer Mahmud Jumaat said the objection was made under Section 26(1) of the Evidence Act due to an application filed by the police.

He said his client - Zayn’s mother - had given a statement before Magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah on Wednesday.
