Tamil Nadu teen’s ATM theft caper

A 15-YEAR-old boy in India stole nearly 100,000 rupees from people who were withdrawing money at an automated teller machine (ATM) with a simple and unique method, Makkal Osai reported.

Several people withdrawing cash at the said ATM in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, were surprised when no cash was given out despite receiving an SMS notification that the money had been disbursed.

One such customer noticed the teenager hanging around near the ATM kiosk and caught him red-handed when he saw the boy taking money out of the maintenance door.

Police who were called to the scene found the boy in possession of a large sum of money, 10 ATM cards and a bunch of keys.

During questioning, the boy, who is from Uttar Pradesh, admitted to blocking the cash dispenser slot with a board, causing currency notes to fall into the service compartment of the ATM.

The boy would then open the maintenance door with a duplicate key and take out the cash after the customer left.
