Hospital Pasir Gudang to be completed ahead of schedule

JOHOR BARU: Hospital Pasir Gudang will be completed two months ahead of its schedule, says Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

He said the hospital’s construction was now 83.5% complete, compared to its scheduled 72.5% completion at this point in time.

“The project’s progress to date is 60 days ahead of its original schedule. The project is supposed to be completed in May next year but it will now be in March.

“When it is completed, we will hand it over to the Health Ministry,’’ he said, adding that the hospital is expected to begin operations in April 2025.

Ahmad, who is also the Pontian MP, was speaking to reporters during a working visit to the hospital yesterday.

He added one of the factors behind the fast progress of the Hospital Pasir Gudang’s construction was the usage of Building Information Modeling and Industrialised Building System (IBS) technology in the project’s planning and implementation.

Ahmad said the IBS score for the construction was 79% and the hospital was one of the projects that successfully obtained approval from the Construction Industry Development Board for providing on-site or site-casting IBS components.

He said the use of IBS technology helped to overcome the labour shortage problem faced during the post-Covid-19 pandemic era.

“The project, which is implemented as a design-and-build project at a cost of RM375.5mil, has a specialist hospital, staff quarters, nurses’ dormitory, mechanical and electrical building, support building and infrastructure work,” he added.

Ahmad said although Hospital Pasir Gudang was close to Hospital Sultanah Aminah and Hospital Sultan Ismail, it was still expected to meet the needs of two million people living around the area.
