KUALA LUMPUR: Across the country, Muslims came together to celebrate Hari Raya Haji with mosques filled with worshippers, including leaders and heads of state, performing Aidiladha prayers.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail joined more than 20,000 congregants in performing Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Putra in Putrajaya.
They listened to a sermon delivered by the Grand Imam of the mosque, Salahuddin Ghozali.
In the nation’s capital, worshippers, comprising locals and foreigners, performed Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Negara, led by the Grand Imam of the mosque, Ehsan Mohd Husni.
In Selangor, the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah joined more than 3,000 Muslims in performing Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah in Bukit Jelutong.
Also in attendance were Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
In Johor, the Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim performed Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Pasir Pelangi Jamek, Johor Baru, with his brothers Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi was also present, along with state government executive council members and senior government officials.
In Penang, the Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his wife Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Noor performed Aidiladha prayers alongside more than 2,000 Muslims at the state mosque. They then performed the sacrificial rituals at the mosque compound.
A total of 251 cows were distributed by Yayasan Amal Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang to 252 mosques and 25 surau, benefiting some 13,500 B40 recipients in the state.
In Terengganu, residents of Kampung Banggol Chempedak in Serada, near Kuala Terengganu, did something different by performing their Aidiladha prayers by the riverside in Dataran Banggol Chempedak yesterday morning, in addition to bringing food to be consumed after the prayers. More than 100 congregants, consisting of residents of the village and surrounding areas, performed their prayers in the area as the village surau’s new building is currently under construction.
In Negri Sembilan, Masjid Sri Sendayan in Seremban became the focal point for Aidiladha prayers, attended by more than 5,000 worshippers, including foreigners.
The prayers were led by Imam Muhammad Anas Fikri Mohd Nasir, who then delivered a sermon.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun also conveyed Aidiladha greetings to the people of Negri Sembilan and hoped that the community would continue to remember the struggles and sacrifices of Prophet Ibrahim and thus be inspired by his example.
In Melaka, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Rustam and his wife Toh Puan Asmah Abd Rahman performed Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Al-Azim in Bukit Palah.
In Kedah, the Sultan of Kedah Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah performed Aidiladha prayers with about 2,000 other congregants at Masjid Zahir in Alor Setar.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and the state exco were also in attendance, reported Bernama.
In Perlis, Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli joined more than 1,000 people in performing Aidiladha prayers at Balai Islam Madi, Jejawi Dalam, in Arau.
In Kelantan, the Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V performed Aidiladha prayers alongside thousands of worshippers at Masjid Al-Ismaili in Tumpat.
In Pahang, the Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, accompanied by Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah and Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, performed Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Sultan Ahmad 1 in Kuantan, with more than 1,000 congregants.In Perak, the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah performed Aidiladha prayers with about 800 worshippers at Masjid Sultan Azlan Shah in Ipoh and listened to a sermon.
In Sarawak, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, as well as Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, performed Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Jamek in Kuching.
In Sabah, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor performed Aidiladha prayers with about 500 congregants at Masjid Haji Noor in Serusup, Tuaran, before attending the sacrificial rituals at the Tuaran district police headquarters.
