THE office of a political party in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu was destroyed by a mob after it supported an inter-caste marriage, Malaysia Nanban reported.

This happened following the nuptials of Mathan Kumar, 28, and Uthaya Thatchayani, 23, who are from different castes.

The couple, who had been dating for several years, decided to get married so they went to a registrar’s office to get it done.

However, the bride’s family objected to the relationship, so the couple sought help from the Marxist Party in Thirunelveli city to solemnise the marriage instead.

About 30 people from the woman’s family turned up at the office to take her home.

When they found out that the couple were already married with the help of party members, they trashed the office.

Police arrested 13 people involved in the incident and charged them.

Those arrested included the bride’s parents and the leader of a party representing the woman’s caste.
