Goldsmith shop loses millions to armed robbers

KUALA LUMPUR: A goldsmith shop at a shopping centre in Kajang has suffered losses of around RM3.2mil after being hit by armed robbers.

Kajang deputy police chief Supt Mohamad Nasir Drahman, who confirmed the incident, said seven people, including employees of the shop, have been questioned in the investigation so far.

“We will summon several other witnesses to provide statements soon,” he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.

Media reports said four masked men dressed as security guards and wearing gloves entered the shop at 3.17pm.

They smashed glass display cases using a hammer to steal the jewellery. They are also believed to have been carrying two pistols and a shotgun.

The suspects were also said to have fired a warning shot at a wall inside the shop before fleeing through the basement parking area.
