Man arrested for dangerous driving along Senai-Desaru Expressway in Johor

KOTA TINGGI: Police have arrested a 53-year-old man after a short clip showing him driving dangerously along the Senai-Desaru Expressway (SDE) went viral on social media.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said police received the four-second video, which went viral on Facebook, at around 9.30pm on Monday (June 17) night.

“The video shows a car driving dangerously by passing other vehicles and entering the opposite lane at KM61.3 along SDE, which put other road users at risk.

“Police were able to detect the driver when he came to the Kota Tinggi police district headquarters at around 8.30am on Wednesday (June 19) to help with our investigation,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday.

Supt Hussin added police then carried out a urine test on the suspect where he tested positive for drugs.

He said the suspect was then detained to be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In an unrelated case, police have arrested a drug trafficker following an operation at a petrol station in Gelang Patah near Iskandar Puteri.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst M. Kumarasan said the 44-year-old suspect was arrested last Thursday (June 13) at around 9.30am.

“Checks on the suspect found he tested negative for drugs, however, he has prior narcotics records against him.

“We found a backpack at the scene where further checks found 20 packets weighing 3.05 kilograms of ganja worth RM9,300, which police immediately seized.

“Besides the drugs, police also seized a car and a motorcycle as well as RM90 in cash from the suspect,” he said adding that the total value of all seized items was RM105,390.

ACP Kumarasan added that the initial investigation believed that the suspect was part of a drug trafficking syndicate, which has been active since July 2016.

He said the suspect was currently under remand until Thursday (June 20) to assist with the investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
