Sabah Energy Commission reminds bidders of RFP deadline for Large-Scale Solar Project

KOTA KINABALU: The purchase period for the Request for Proposal (RFP) document for the upcoming Large-Scale Solar (LSS) Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant project (LSS-SABAH2024) will end next week on June 26.

In reminding potential bidders for this project, the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) said that after the deadline for the purchase of the RFP at 5pm on June 26, an online briefing session will be held on July 1.

"This is for all purchasers of RFP documents to facilitate the bid submission before its September 23 deadline," said ECoS chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid.

Potential bidders were also required to appoint Electrical Contractors with Class PV (Grid-Connected) registered with ECoS for this purpose, he said.

"Currently, there are only 15 registered Electrical Contractors with Class PV (Grid-Connected), with nine of them being local Sabah companies. However, not all of them have the capability to handle large-scale solar projects," he said.

Abdul encouraged qualified and competent Electrical Contractors with Class PV (Grid-Connected) to register with ECoS, as more contractors were needed to handle the anticipated large number of LSS projects under LSS-SABAH2024.

Acknowledging the importance of small-scale contractors, who are also needed to support ongoing SELCO-PV Sabah programs, he welcomed them to come forward to provide more choices to potential developers.

"I strongly encourage interested contractors to register early with ECoS, and I assure you that we will facilitate timely approval, subject to fulfilling the requirements," he said.

The current list of ECCPV(GC) contractors can be viewed online at https://ecos.gov.my/content/list-contractors under the Renewable Energy category.

ECoS is a statutory body established by the Sabah government on January 10, 2023.

It operated as the regulator for the energy sector within the Chief Minister's portfolio, with primary objectives to ensure secure, sustainable, affordable, and accessible energy for Sabah.

ECoS plays a pivotal role in shaping Sabah’s energy landscape, promoting responsible energy practices, and safeguarding the interests of both consumers and the environment.

Interested parties can view the bidding document at ECoS headquarters at Level 10, Plaza Shell, Kota Kinabalu during office hours. General information about the bid can also be obtained at www.ecos.gov.my/LSS-SABAH2024 or by emailing queries to LSS-SABAH2024@ecos.gov.my.
