Falling tree kills cop in Lahad Datu


KOTA KINABALU: A General Operations Force (GOF) member was killed after a tree fell on the police van he was driving.

The tragedy happened near Felda Sahabat 16 in Sabah’s east coast Lahad Datu district at about 2.30pm on Friday, when a tree on the right side of the road fell on the van.

Corporal Zeno Gungoh, who was with the 17th GOF Battalion in Lahad Datu, was confirmed to have died at the scene.

It is learned that he once served as a Special Action Unit member and was also involved in the operation against the foreign incursion in Lahad Datu in 2013.

Lahad Datu police chief Asst Comm Dzulbaharin Ismail said the victim was on his way from Komtek Sahabat 16 GOF when the incident occurred.
