Rohingya minor raped, Myanmar man arrested

AMPANG: A 20-year-old man has been detained for allegedly raping a Rohingya teenager at a house in Taman Tasik Permai here.

The suspect, a Myanmar national, was believed to have gone to the home of the 14-year-old girl at about 3am on May 25 on the pretext of informing her that her father was unwell, said Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail.

“But he suddenly cornered her and covered her mouth before raping her,” he said when contacted yesterday.

“The suspect was detained on Friday and has been remanded until June 28,” said ACP Mohd Azam.

In another case, a 33-year-old man was detained after he attempted to snatch a bag belonging to a Chinese woman at Southville City.

Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the incident was recorded on Friday morning by a bystander who lodged a police report soon after.

“The suspect was on a motorcycle during the attempted robbery.

“We managed to identify and apprehend him at Kampung Jenderam Hilir at about 4pm on the same day,” he said.

He said the man is jobless and did not have any criminal record.

“We also seized the motorcycle he used,” he added.
