Ten-year-old boy drowns while fishing with friends in JB


JOHOR BARU: A ten-year-old boy drowned after falling into a drain while fishing with his friends here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the boy was found at about 3.40pm on Tuesday (June 25) in a drain at Desa Mutiara here.

"The victim was fishing with four others, including his brother, when he slipped and fell into the ditch while trying to pull his fishing rod.

"His body was later found at around 3.40pm some 10m away from when he had fallen," he said in a statement here.

Earlier, Tebrau Fire and Rescue Department chief Shamsul Khomari said that they have received a distress call about the incident on Tuesday.

"Seven firemen were deployed to the scene upon receiving the call.

"The body was later found 10m away from where he fell while fishing.

"He was declared dead at the scene and the body has been handed over to the police for further action," he said.
