IPOH: A proposal will be submitted to the state government to cap the assessment tax rate here at 30%, says city mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.
He said the Ipoh City Council is currently conducting a reevaluation exercise on the assessment tax rate to see whether an increment is possible.
"At the moment, the rate is still 16%. We will propose to the state government a cap or maximum rate of not more than 30%," said Rumaizi.
He said this at a press conference after launching an initiative to promote the city's products and tourist destinations at the Ipoh railway station here on Wednesday (June 26).
"We will study the rates, which could also be lower than 16%," he said, adding that the last time a re-evaluation exercise was conducted was in 1981.
"The re-evaluation exercise is still ongoing and we have yet to submit our proposal to the state government for approval," he added.
Rumaizi said the assessment rate would be evaluated based on the value of the property.
"The rates for houses might be lower, while there will be a different rate for factories," he added.
Asked about the Perak Hotel Enactment which will be implemented from July, Rumaizi said engagement sessions have been conducted with accommodation service providers in the city.
"A lot of operators understand the need for the enactment and responses have been positive," he said.
