Three online gambling dens raided in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR: Three raids on online gambling dens within Cheras led to the arrest of three suspected bookies.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Ravindar Singh Sarban Singh said that the raids were conducted on June 24 and June 26 in Jalan Lima Chan Sow Lin and Jalan Jejaka 7.

"The first raid led to the arrest of a 34-year-old foreigner, with the police seizing a handphone. The second and third raids led to the capture of two locals aged 40 and 44 years old and the confiscations of their handphones," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 26).

Investigations showed that the three were acting as bookies but had no connections to syndicates.

During their arrests, inspections found messages regarding sports betting on their phones.

All had only been active recently in connection to the ongoing national football competitions.

"They acted as lone rangers to avoid being identified as bookies. They would take any amount of money they could take from bets," he said.

Police have remanded the foreigner until June 28 while the other two suspects have been granted police bail.
