Cops on the trail of suspects in daring RM3.2mil gold heist

KAJANG: The police are expected to identify the suspects behind the recent RM3.2mil goldsmith heist soon.

Although there haven’t been any arrests yet, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said police are set to find out who the four culprits are.

“We are still investigating the case.

“However, we expect to identify the suspects soon,” he told reporters after witnessing the handing over of the Kajang OCPD post from Senior Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan to Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof at Kajang district police headquarters yesterday.

Asked whether the past goldsmith heists in Kajang and South Klang were committed by the same group, Comm Hussein said the past cases were committed by a different gang.

It was recently reported that a goldsmith at a shopping centre in Kajang suffered losses of around RM3.2mil after being hit by armed robbers.

Seven people, including employees of the shop, have been questioned in the investigation so far.

Four masked men dressed as security guards and wearing gloves entered the shop at 3.17pm on June 17.

They smashed glass display cases using a hammer to steal the jewellery. They are also believed to have been carrying two pistols and a shotgun.

The suspects were also said to have fired a warning shot at a wall inside the shop before fleeing through the basement parking lot.

On the handover, Comm Hussein said ACP Naazron officially took the helm as Kajang OCPD yesterday.

He said the district police would benefit from the leadership of the new man at the helm.

“He has vast experience, including being deputy OCPDs in Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur.

“I have no doubt he will be able to lead the district to new heights of success,” he said in his speech.

Comm Hussein also saluted SAC Mohd Zaid for his service as the Kajang OCPD for more than four years.

“We hope he will continue his distinguished service at Selangor police headquarters,” he said.

Comm Hussein urged Kajang police personnel and officers to give their full support to ACP Naazron.

“Give him the support that you have shown all past OCPDs.

“I hope the Kajang police force will be able to continue to improve on their service to the people,” he said.

He also reminded all police personnel to serve with the utmost dedication and integrity, as the plight of the people must always be a priority.
