MOHD Kaharudin Ibrahim from Kampung Gagu in Jelebu, Negri Sembilan, is shocked that a panther has been attacking his chickens, Harian Metro reported.
The 60-year-old villager had initially thought the chickens were attacked by civets and did not pay much attention to it.
“I saw an animal leaving the coop about two weeks ago. When a friend showed me a picture from the Internet, I realised it was a panther.
“Fortunately, I did not confront it.”
He said about 50 chickens had been killed and there were only 11 chicks left.
Kampung Gagu village development and security committee chairman Khairul Aznan Maaris said the panther’s attacks on villagers’ livestock was not the first time.
He said the first attack happened in March or April when the panther attacked a villager’s ducks.
“On June 6, the panther returned to attack other livestock. The committee had reported to the Wildlife and National Parks Department, which has set a trap on June 22,” he said.
> Three friends who are classic bicycle enthusiasts took on a 300km ride from Ampangan in Negri Sembilan to Johor Baru, Utusan Malaysia reported.
According to the Tuo Soghomban Bicycle Club, its member Mond Ariff Bidin and two friends, Mohd Nasir Wahab and Mohd Sarif Mohd Yusuf, started their ride on Monday to participate in a cycling event in Johor Baru on Friday.
This is the first time the trio cycled such a long distance, driven by their passion for classic bicycles. “We will be cycling across Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor covering a distance of 300km.
“This definitely will be a historic moment for us because the longest distance we recorded before was to Muar.
“The trip will take four days, with stops at several places. Although our bicycles look old, they are still strong and durable,” Mohd Ariff said.
