Six nabbed over RM13,000 in false claims for census takers' allowances

MELAKA: Six civil servants have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission( MACC) on suspicion of submitting false claims relating to allowances of contract workers.

According to a source, the six women aged 40 to 57 had allegedly submitted claims amounting to RM13,586 to the finance department of a government department here in 2020.

The claims are related to assignments carried out by the contract workers under the Malaysia Short-Term Employment Programme (MySTEP) for the Population and Housing Census 2020.

The source revealed that those commissioned under MySTEP were not permanent workers of the department as their employment was on a short-term and contract basis.

Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie when contacted on Thursday (June 27) said the six were arrested the previous day after being summoned to assist in the investigation.

He added that all six are being probed under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 and have been remanded for four days until Sunday (June 30).
