JOHOR BARU: Three friends, including a Thai woman, have been charged at the Sessions Court here for possessing a gun and a 25cm-long blade.
In the first charge, Soh Wee Hong, 29, Hoo Kim Wei, 26, and Thai national Miss Laor Mikarat, 26, pleaded not guilty to the illegal possession of a silver-coloured revolver at a house in Jalan Alimat, Wadi Hana here at 3.45pm on June 14.
They were charged before judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Ariffin Ismail on Thursday (June 27).
The charge was framed under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years and a minimum of six strokes of the cane upon conviction.
As the offence is non-bailable, no bail was offered.
Subsequently, the three were brought to a separate Sessions Court for the second charge.
However, judge Rasidah Roslee postponed Mikarat’s charge to Aug 1 to ensure a Thai interpreter could be present.
Meanwhile, Soh and Hoo were charged for the illegal possession of a 25cm stainless steel knife at the same location and time.
Both men pleaded not guilty to the charge, which was read to them in Mandarin.
The charge was framed under Section 7(1) of the Corrosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958 and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
The offence is punishable with imprisonment of five to 10 years.
Rasidah also did not allow bail for the accused, citing the earlier non-bailable offence.
The court advised the accused to seek legal representation ahead of the next mention for both cases on Aug 1.
