Civil servants nabbed for falsifying claims

MELAKA: Six female civil servants have been arrested over a supposed submission of false claims relating to the allowances of contract statisticians.

Sources said the six, aged 40 to 57, had allegedly submitted claims amounting to RM13,586 to the finance department of a government department here in 2020.

The claims are related to assignments carried out by staff under the Malaysia Short-Term Employment Programme (MySTEP) for the Population and Housing Census 2020.

According to a source, those commissioned under MySTEP are not permanent employees of the department because their employment status is short-term and contract-based.

Melaka Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission director Adi Supian Shafie, when contacted, said the six were arrested on Wednesday after they were summoned to assist in the investigation.

He added that all six are being probed under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 and have been remanded for four days until June 30.
