KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 12 infrastructure projects worth RM1.35bil are in the works for the police force this year, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
The Inspector-General of Police said the projects were under the 13th Malaysia Plan's Rolling Plan.
"The projects worth RM1.35bil are the highest number of projects approved compared to previous years.
"It will involve the construction of district police headquarters, police quarters and other facilities," he said in his speech during Bukit Aman monthly assembly on Friday (June 28).
Among the planned projects are constructions of Kemaman district police headquarters (IPD) and Kijal police station in Terengganu, a Padang Besar IPD and police station as well as housing in Perlis, Nabawan IPD and police station as well as housing in Sabah and Jelutong police station and housing in Penang, he added.
"The projects also include a transport workshop at Kedah police headquarters and a monitoring tower at the Batu Putih post in Perlis.
"I urge all police personnel and officers to be grateful for the blessings of facilities provided.
"Always elevate the level of discipline and commitment in carrying out your duties and preserving the facilities provided for the benefit of all," he said.
Last year, the police force received RM112.6mil in funds for 465 repair and upgrade projects for police quarters, the IGP said.
"The police and the Public Works Department have managed to upgrade 4,612 units of housing quarters nationwide.
"On top of repairs of pipes and wirings, a total of RM14.4mil was allocated for renovation of 286 units.
"Some 286 units measuring 700 sq ft (two bedrooms) each were turned into 143 units measuring 1,200 sq ft (three to four bedrooms).
"The increase in size and rooms is aimed at ensuring comfort for personnel and officers," he said.
The funds also involved other projects including for police stations and General Operations Force (GOF) posts," he said.
The country's top cop instructed all personnel, be it district, state or federal level, to holistically monitor any form of extremism and radicalism in the country, either by individuals or groups.
"Stay vigilant and wary as the safety of the people is the utmost priority," he said.
He also reminded all police officers and personnel to always be at a state of readiness and conduct their duties efficiently.
"Always ensure all duties are done fast, in a correct manner and transparent as well as adhering to standard operating procedure (SOP) and instructions.
"Practise and strengthen integrity and avoid any form of corruption," he said.
