KOTA KINABALU: Three eateries at the city’s popular eatery spot, Anjung Selera, in Likas, have been ordered to close by the Sabah Health Department for failing to observe regulations under the Food Act 1983.
Its director Datuk Dr Asits Sanna said the two-week closure order was issued according to Section 11 of the Food Act 1983, after inspection revealed that the premises failed to comply with sanitary and hygienic requirements, posing potential health hazards.
In addition, compound notices were issued to four other outlets under Section 32B of the same Act for failing to maintain cleanliness of the premises and food handlers who did not attend handling courses or receive typhoid vaccinations.
They were among 14 food premises inspected during an operation carried out on Thursday (June 27), involving 22 enforcement officers.
“The operation aims to ensure all food premises in Anjung Selera comply with the hygiene requirements as contained in the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
“This includes inspecting food preparation and storage areas, the hygiene of food handlers including their typhoid vaccination status, records of attending food handling courses, health inspections, and attire while handling food,” said Dr Asits.
All food handlers are also reminded to practise clean and safe food preparation for the public.
Meanwhile, the public has been advised to choose clean food premises and always be vigilant about food safety.
