Warrants issued for arrest of former TV host

KUALA LUMPUR: Four Magistrates’ Courts have issued warrants for the arrest of former TV host Norjuma Habib Mohamed for failing to appear at court in her cases, in which she was accused of causing hurt to three individuals.

Magistrates Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim, Illi Marisqa Khalizan, Fatin Dayana Jalil and Nurul Izzah Shaharuddin had each issued the warrants of arrest after the 44-year-old and her bailor failed to appear in the courtrooms despite her name being called several times by the court interpreters in the respective courts.

Norjuma, who is a businesswoman, was earlier seen at the court lobby around 10.30am.

The warrants were issued by the courts in the afternoon due to her non-appearance.

The courts previously granted her a total bail of RM6,500 in one surety to guarantee her attendance.

Yesterday, the courts also fixed the cases to be mentioned on July 26, 29 and 30, as well as Aug 2.

Deputy public prosecutors R. Harvind, Hamizah Hisan and Sheryn Yong and prosecuting officer Insp Shazwan Hasifi Shahrun appeared for the prosecution.

On April 25, Norjuma claimed trial for voluntarily causing harm to a Nepali security guard, Neupane Tika Ram, by kicking him on his left calf at a tuition centre in Bukit Damansara.

The incident allegedly took place at around 3pm on March 29, 2018.

She also allegedly slapped and scratched the hand of Nur Solehah Rosli at a condominium in Wangsa Maju in a 10.30am incident on Oct 18, 2021.

If convicted, the charges under Section 323 of the Penal Code carry a maximum one-year imprisonment or fine of no more than RM2,000, or both.

Norjuma also faces two charges of damaging property, whereby she allegedly damaged a boom gate (estimated losses of RM4,200) and a CCTV (estimated losses of RM500) at a condominium in Taman U-Thant.
