KUALA LUMPUR: A 24-year-old Indonesian maid, who was allegedly beaten by her employer, has been rescued by the police.

Besides being abused, it is believed she has not been paid her salary for the past six months.

The victim was rescued following a raid by the Bukit Aman CID Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) division (D3) at a house in Selayang at about 6.15pm on Thursday.

The division principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the police team raided the semi-detached house in an operation codenamed Ops Pintas.

“We detained a 39-year-old woman, who is the employer.

“The suspect, who works as an accountant, was brought to the Gombak district police headquarters for an investigation under Section 12 of the Atipsom Act,” he said when contacted.

Initial investigations revealed that the maid had been working at the house for about six months.

“We believe she was abused by her employer, who slapped her and hit her using a cane.

“She had injuries, including on her hands and face,” he said.

SAC Soffian said the maid was promised a salary of RM1,400 a month, but she claimed that she has not been paid any salary since she began work there.
