JOHOR BARU: The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) has set a goal of hitting RM2mil in sales through the Agro Madani programme this year.
Its chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli said that the event would be held at the Permanent Farmer Markets (PTK) in six states, namely Seberang Jaya (Penang), Chini (Pahang), Chukai (Terengganu), Kota Baru (Kelantan), Datin Halimah (Johor) and Changlun (Kedah).
“We are confident that the combined sales from these six locations will hit the RM2mil mark,” he said after the Agro Madani sales launching ceremony at PTK Datin Halimah here yesterday.
The Agro Madani seeks to offer consumers fresh produce such as vegetables, eggs, fruits and rice at lower prices.
Citing for example the three-day sales at PTK Datin Halimah, Aminuddin said there would be special deals such as discounted prices for chicken in which about 2,000kg would be on sale.
Other items included seafood such as ikan siakap being priced at RM2 each, he added.
Overall, he said that visitors could expect discounts ranging from 10% to 30%.
He said he was optimistic that the Agro Madani sales at PTK Datin Halimah, which ends tomorrow, could reach the RM200,000 target.
“The initial response from visitors has been positive,” he said.
“Attendees have been steadily increasing since the introduction of these Agro Madani sales last year.”
“Our target sales figure of RM2mil by the end of this year is within reach,” said Aminuddin who expressed confidence that these sales would continue in the future, due to the overwhelming support.
He believed that the success of the programme was due to the collaboration of producers who were willing to offer reduced prices without the need for subsidies.
