PETALING JAYA: PKR advisory council deputy chairman Dr Syed Husin Ali died early Saturday morning at Hospital Selayang. He was 88 years old.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil confirmed his passing in a post on the X platform.
“I have just received the sad news that Dr Syed Husin Ali, the Deputy Chairman of the PKR Advisory Council, has passed away early this morning,” he said.
"The late Syed Husin has contributed significantly to the party and the people and authored numerous books, including 'Dua Wajah: Tahanan Tanpa Bicara', which details his experience being detained under ISA, and 'Sejarah dan Dasar Perjuangan Keadilan'.
"He was also involved in various elections and had a long career in the national political arena," he said.
Fahmi added that he had visited the veteran politician who was admitted to Hospital Selayang on Thursday (June 27).
He also shared that he had personally assisted in Syed Husin’s campaign during the 2004 general election when the latter contested in PJ Selatan.
“Dr Syed was highly respected for his views within the party and was often consulted by the leadership.
“He was patient, gentle, firm on matters of discipline, and offered much advice, including to myself.
“May Allah SWT forgive all his sins and place his soul among the faithful,” he added.
Syed Husin was appointed PKR deputy president following the merger of Parti Rakyat Malaysia, of which he was president, and Parti Keadilan Nasional in 2003.
Among other roles, Syed Husin has served as a Senator in the Dewan Negara, and a professor at Universiti Malaya.
