Johor CIQ presents cake to Singapore’s ICA to celebrate Causeway’s 100 anniversary

JOHOR BARU: The management of Bangunan Sultan Iskandar CIQ complex (BSI) has given a cake to Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in conjunction with the Causeway's 100th anniversary.

The cake, which features a photo of the Causeway with the words "A century of strong bonding", was handed over by BSI deputy Immigration head R. Vimala on Friday (June 28).

"The cake symbolises the cooperation and close relationship between Malaysia and Singapore.

"We hope that the close collaboration between the two countries will continue," read a statement on the BSI's Facebook.

On Friday (June 28), Malaysia and Singapore celebrated the centennial anniversary of the Causeway, one of the busiest border crossings in the world.

The historic moment was marked with a simple, yet significant ceremony that included the release of 100 pigeons to symbolise the Causeway's 100-year journey.

The ceremony, held at the "zero mark" of the Causeway was witnessed by Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

The birds were released by Johor Mentri Besar Onn Hafiz and Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

The two leaders also exchanged mementoes to commemorate the anniversary of their shared border.
