KUALA LUMPUR: Twelve infrastructure projects worth RM1.35bil are in the works for the police this year, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

“This includes the construction of district police headquarters, police quarters and other facilities,” he said.

Among the planned projects are the building of the Kemaman district police headquarters (IPD) and Kijal police station in Terengganu, Padang Besar IPD and police station, Nabawan IPD and police station, as well as housing in Perlis.

There will also be a housing project in Sabah, and Jelutong police station and housing in Penang, he added.

“Others include a transport workshop at the Kedah police headquarters and a monitoring tower at the Batu Putih post in Perlis,” Razarudin said in his speech during the Bukit Aman monthly assembly here yesterday.

These 12 projects, he added, are the highest number approved in a year.

He said the projects are under the 13th Malaysia Plan’s Rolling Plan.

Last year, the police received RM112.6mil in funds for 465 repair and upgrade projects for police quarters, he added.

“The police and the Public Works Department upgraded 4,612 housing units nationwide.

“On top of pipe repairs and wiring works, a total of RM14.4mil was allocated for the renovation of 286 police quarters’ units.”

Razarudin said 286 units measuring 700sq ft (two bedrooms) each were turned into 143 units with 1,200sq ft space (with three to four bedrooms).

“The increase in size and rooms is aimed at ensuring comfort for personnel and officers,” he said.

The funds will also be used for other projects, including police stations and General Operations Force posts, he added.

Razarudin also said every level of the police force – at the district, state and federal levels – must monitor extremism and radicalism in the country.

“Stay vigilant and be wary, as the people’s safety is of utmost priority,” he said.

Razarudin reminded all police officers and personnel to always be ready and perform their jobs efficiently.

“Always ensure all duties are performed quickly, correctly and transparently. Adhere to the standard operating procedure and instructions.

“Strengthen integrity and avoid any form of corruption,” he added.
