PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support shown by party members for the unity government’s candidate in the Sungai Bakap by-election.

The MCA president said Kampung Wellesley MCA branch chief Cheoh Bak Choon, together with his comrades, had pledged to support Joohari Ariffin to ensure better development in the area.

“Once I reached Sungai Bakap, I was accompanied by MCA vice president and Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng and visited Kampung Wellesley to meet party members.

“I must thank Cheoh for his warm hospitality, including preparing the famous black thorn durians for everyone to taste,” said Dr Wee in a Facebook post.

The Ayer Hitam MP lauded Cheoh and his family’s contribution to the local community and their loyalty to the party.

“Cheoh is a third-generation Kampung Wellesley resident from a typical MCA family. His grandfather joined the MCA before the country’s independence and had served the party for many years.

“He and his father have both served as village chiefs, contributing significantly to the local community,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk R. Ramanan, Penang MCA secretary Yeoh Chin Kah, Penang MCA organising secretary Datuk Tan Lee Huat, national MCA Youth vice-chief Tan Yang Pang and Nibong Tebal MCA chairman Ooi Guan Hai.

Before the visit, Dr Wee, together with Ramanan and other party leaders had an engagement session with members of the Kepala Gajah Taman Puteri Gunung Residents Association.

Dr Wee assured villagers that issues such as traffic congestion and land ownership would be brought to the attention of the Prime Minister through Ramanan.
