Huge boost for emergency services nationwide from planned NG999 system

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s emergency services will get a far-reaching upgrade in the form of the planned Next Generation Emergency Services (NG999).

Developed and operated by TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd, the service aims to include a mobile app that provides users updates through text messages, photos and videos.

It will also see the inclusion of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics and automatic caller ID as well as location identification to improve the speed and effectiveness of emergency services, the company said in a statement on Monday (July 1).

It will also integrate web-based digital maps, caller ID, geolocation services and mobile smart apps into emergency incident handling services in a manner expected to significantly improve emergency response time nationwide, the statement read.

NG999 is set to replace the existing MERS999 nationwide and cover 800 locations across Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak, it added.

Earlier in the day, the company signed a concession agreement with the Communications Ministry to begin development of the service.
