Over 15,000 prank calls made to emergency hotline monthly, says Teo

KUALA LUMPUR: Over 15,000 prank calls are made to emergency response services each month, says Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching.

However, Teo noted that the number recorded this year was a significant improvement compared to 2022, which saw over 31,000 pranks calls per month.

“Despite the 50% average decrease, emergency services prank calls are still relatively high.

“I would like to once again remind all Malaysians that 999 is only for emergencies and to refrain from wasting emergency service resources through these prank calls,” she told reporters after witnessing the signing ceremony between the ministry and TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd for a new emergency response services here on Monday (July 1).
