ALLOCATIONS for Opposition MPs seems to be a never-ending issue for both sides of the political divide.
While Opposition lawmakers persistently call for more allocations for the benefit of their constituents, the unity government has remained silent on updates regarding such funding.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof (pic), when asked about it, sidestepped the query.
“Wait for me to run first,” he quipped, alluding to an Opposition MP’s recent fundraising run.
Yesterday, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muda-Muar) completed his 200km Langkah Muar run to highlight what he claimed was the unjust treatment of Opposition constituencies, which he said were deprived of government funding.
The run was also to raise funds for Syed Saddiq’s Muar service centre, and managed to collect RM160,000 from some 2,000 donors, exceeding the RM100,000 target.
On April 18, Fadillah, who is also the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said the unity government’s secretariat leadership council had agreed in principle to consider extending allocations to Opposition lawmakers.
Fadillah has held a few rounds of negotiations with the Opposition for the latter to receive constituency development funds after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that he does not object to it.
He said they are in the process of drafting a memorandum of understanding focused on efforts to develop and revive the country’s economy.
