Two die after motorcycle collided with signpost in Johor


KLUANG: An unemployed man and his girlfriend died after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a street signpost along Jalan Besar Kluang here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said police received information about the incident involving a motorcycle hitting a street sign post at around 3am on Tuesday (July 2).

“Initial investigation found that the motorcycle came from Jalan Besar Kluang heading towards Batu Pahat-Mersing roundabout.

“However, when the motorcycle reached the location, the motorcyclist then lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the street sign post,” he said here on Tuesday.

ACP Bahrin added the 31-year-old male motorcyclist died while being treated at Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital here, while his 25-year-old girlfriend, who was the pillion, died at the scene.

He said the victims had been identified as Ahmad Firdhous Sulaiman and Nurul Syafika Atira Zakaria. They died due to serious head and body injuries.

ACP Bahrin said further checks found the male motorcyclist did not have a license while the motorcycle, which sustained serious damages, belonged to his friend.

He added the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
