Police report lodged over dog abuse video, case in Veterinary Services Dept's hands

KAJANG: A police report has been lodged on the video allegedly showing a man beating his pet dog.

Kajang police chief Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said a report was lodged on Tuesday (July 2).

It is believed that the alleged abuse occurred at an apartment in Batu 9, Cheras.

"The case has been handed over to the Veterinary Services Department (DVS) for further action," he said when contacted on Wednesday (July 3).

"The public is urged not to break any laws including the abuse of animals or pets.

"(Those suspected of this) can be charged under the Animal Welfare Act 2015," he added.

On Tuesday, non-governmental organisation My Forever Doggo (MFD) said in an Instagram post the incident was detected by an independent animal rescuer who shared a video said to show a man beating his dog, a husky, on the balcony of his condominium unit in Kajang.

In the post, MFD said the rescuer coordinated a rescue mission and spoke civilly with the alleged abuser, who then handed over the husky named Kitster.

MFD said the alleged abuser later accused the rescuer of "kidnapping" the dog and filed a police report.
