PARIT BUNTAR: Rest assured, the Education Ministry (MOE) system has the information of all top Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination scorers, and the coordination of matriculation placements for all applicants will be done promptly, said minister Fadhlina Sidek.
“All top scorers are already in our system, and those who apply will be considered. This means that we will coordinate that placement.
“So, don’t worry, it is already in our current system, and this is what we want to coordinate in relation to the placement, which will be done immediately.
“Yesterday (Monday), we accepted admissions to the matriculation level, and on July 5, we will accept those from the appeal process,” she said after launching the Kerian district-level Anti-Bullying 2024 programme at SMJK Parit Buntar here yesterday.
“After coordinating with the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE), we will ensure that all these places are filled immediately,” said Fadhlina, adding that her ministry will work closely with MOHE to ensure that all top SPM scorers are placed in the matriculation programme.
“We will address the placements of all our outstanding students in the matriculation programme with the cooperation of MOHE. We are working together aggressively and comprehensively to ensure that all outstanding students get a place.
Meanwhile, Sinar Harian quoted Fadhlina as saying that all students who excelled in the SPM examination are eligible to be considered for entry into matriculation or foundation programmes at public universities.
She said the recent announcement by the Prime Minister about accommodating high-achievers would not be limited to students who obtained 10As.
“All of our exceptional students will be considered, so don’t worry. There are slots available, and we have opened the appeal process broadly to ensure educational opportunities are given to all.
“This is a guarantee from the Madani government that each excellent student will be considered for placements in matriculation programmes with the cooperation of the Higher Education Ministry,” she said.
Her remarks addressed the perception that local public universities use the 10A achievement as the primary benchmark for placing SPM students in matriculation and foundation programmes.
Fadhlina said that the government will consider all applications submitted by students who excelled.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on Sunday that the government will guarantee all SPM students, regardless of race and region, the opportunity to further their studies at the matriculation level starting this year.
The decision was made following approval by the Cabinet last Friday; however, it would not affect the existing quota for Bumiputra students.
