Two nabbed over break-in at footballer’s home

SHAH ALAM: Two men were detained in connection with a break-in and robbery at the home of Selangor centreback Ahmad Khuzaimi Piee, with Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan saying the suspects were responsible for a string of cases in four states.

The suspects, aged 28 and 33, were nabbed near Kampung Alur Tuman in Marang, Terengganu, on June 26.

“They were nabbed after both met with an accident.

“We believe these two were responsible for the theft at the footballer’s home,” he told a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters yesterday.

Comm Hussein said the break-in had nothing to do with cases involving other footballers.

“We seized several items worth more than RM50,000 from the suspects.

“Among the items seized were 17 bags, seven mobile phones, a camera, four pairs of gloves, 17 watches, five rings, a car and a motorcycle.

“Both men also tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said, adding that the suspects have been remanded until today.

“We believe they were responsible for nine house break-ins and thefts, including the one at the footballer’s home. They have been operating since early this year.

“They have two cases each in Selangor, Melaka and Pahang as well as three cases in Terengganu,” he said.

While the case involving the footballer has been solved, Comm Hussein said the police are in the midst of completing the investigation paper and will refer the matter to the deputy public prosecutor soon.

On May 22, the 31-year-old footballer lodged a police report that his house in Shah Alam was broken into at about 11.30pm.

Initial investigations showed that the suspect is believed to have used a white MPV to go to the house before stealing the victim’s motorcycle, passports and designer bags.

Meanwhile, following the filing of a police report, the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit (USJT) will conduct an investigation into the circulation of graphic photos allegedly showing the injuries on the body of autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, according to Comm Hussein.

“It is classified under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act, Section 203A of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said.

A senior police officer made the report regarding the circulation of the photos at 12.15pm on Sunday.

Previously, pictures of the murder investigation papers involving the child were also leaked.

On Dec 6 last year, Zayn Rayyan’s body was found in a stream near his residence at Idaman Damansara Damai Apartments at 10pm, a day after he was reported missing.
