Cops bust migrant smuggling ring in Hulu Langat, 34 foreigners detained

KAJANG: A total of 34 foreigners have been detained after police cracked down on a migrant smuggling operation in Hulu Langat.

The raid was conducted at premises in Batu 14, Hulu Langat, by the Bukit Aman CID Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) division (D3) at about 5.10pm on Wednesday (June 27).

Bukit Aman D3 principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the syndicate was smuggling migrants to Indonesia using illegal routes.

"Two Indonesian men were detained for being the caretakers of the migrant transit house and as transporters and agents.

"We are investigating them under Section 26A of the Atipsom Act 2007," he said when contacted on Thursday (June 27).

Others detained were 14 Indonesian men, 14 Indonesian women, and four Bangladeshi men.

"They were migrants being transported by the syndicate.

"Among those detained were a woman who is six months pregnant, a one-year-old child, and a 22-year-old mother.

"They are being held under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act," he said.

SAC Soffian said each migrant was charged between RM1,600 and RM2,500 by the syndicate's agents.

"They were using a house as a migrant transit house," he added.
