Sg Bakap Polls: Don't resort to provocative tactics, urges Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: All parties involved in the Sungai Bakap by-election must campaign responsibly without resorting to propaganda, slander or provocative elements, says Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who is also the spokesperson for the Unity Government, issued this stern reminder following complaints received by the Communications Ministry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

"We need to cease campaigning by midnight tonight, and I issue a stern reminder to all parties to avoid engaging in provocative content, as we have received complaints from several individuals in Sungai Bakap.

"These are malicious, provocative acts, and there are phone numbers involved. The MCMC and the police will track down those responsible for these malicious acts. If this is an effort by any party, it will backfire," he said at a post-Cabinet meeting press conference on Thursday (June 27).

The by-election tomorrow is a straight fight between Dr Joohari Ariffin and Nibong Tebal PAS vice-chief Abidin Ismail.

The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff of PAS on May 24 due to stomach inflammation. — Bernama
