Early morning fire turns four Jelutong homes into ash

GEORGE TOWN: Four houses in Jalan Bukit Dumbar, Jelutong, were destroyed by fire in the early hours.

Firemen from Jalan Perak, assisted by their counterparts from Lebuh Pantai and Paya Terubong, rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at about 4.15am yesterday.According to a statement by the Fire and Rescue Department, the four homes suffered 90% damage during the incident.

“The fire also damaged several motorcycles.

“Fortunately, no victims were injured,” the department said.

Jelutong MP, RSN Rayer, who visited the scene later, said the state will assist the victims to rebuild their lives.

“Their houses were completely destroyed. Thank God no lives were lost.

“I also want to thank the firemen for their quick action,” he said.

On Friday, three houses located in front of a mosque in Batu Ferringhi were gutted by fire.

Two of the houses were 80% destroyed while another one was 50% damaged during the 1.11pm incident.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said nobody was injured in the incident.

He said a total of 35 firemen were involved in the rescue operation.
