Opposition MP proposes upgrading A-G's Dept to full-fledge commission

KUALA LUMPUR: Consider upgrading the Auditor-General’s Department into a full-fledged commission, an Opposition lawmaker told the Dewan Rakyat.

Datuk Idris Ahmad (PN-Bagan Serai) made the proposal based on findings from the recent Auditor-General’s report.

“Existing department officers should also be stationed at government-linked companies just as it is currently practised at ministries and statutory bodies,” he said when debating the Auditor-General’s report in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (July 9).

Idris also urged the auditing of high-impact projects valued at RM1 bil and above in stages, adding that this is the norm for publicly listed companies, which are audited each quarter.

The Auditor-General’s report was tabled on Thursday (July 4).

The report raised issues related to the status of the River of Life project, the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) and the National Council of Professors (MPN).
