Two held in Beluran with 20,000 litres of subsidised diesel

KOTA KINABALU: General Operations Force (GOF) personnel arrested two men for the misappropriation of some 20,000 litres of subsidised diesel in the east coast Beluran district.

The suspects, who were travelling in a tanker lorry, were stopped at a roadblock at the KM4 Jalan Sapi Nangoh checkpoint on Tuesday (July 9).

The operation dubbed Ops Taring was conducted by personnel from the 20th GOF Battalion based in Beluran.

Beluran police chief Supt Hasan Majid said the duo was acting suspiciously before they were stopped.

“The men could not produce any valid permit from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry allowing them to transport the diesel,” he said when contacted on Wednesday (July 10).

“They also did not have a receipt as proof of purchase for the fuel.

“The men were then detained and the lorry as well as its contents seized,” he added.

Supt Hasan said the suspects and seized items were referred to the ministry for further action.

He added that the case was being probed under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
