Biker fined RM5,000 for performing ‘wheelie’ stunt in Sibu


SIBU: A 30-year-old motorcyclist has been fined RM5,000 by a Magistrate's Court for performing a dangerous stunt on Friday (July 12)

Mohamad Amiruddin Syahrum was also sentenced to one day in prison, in addition to being barred from holding a valid licence for five years.

Syahrum was accused of riding a motorcycle recklessly and dangerously for pulling a 'wheelie' (where a motorcycle is ridden with the front wheel off the ground) on Jalan Awang Ramli Amit at about 11.30pm on July 5.

The accused was charged under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a maximum sentence of five years in jail and a fine up to RM15,000 if found guilty, as well as disqualification from obtaining a driving licence for not less than five years from the date of conviction.

Based on facts of the case, on that particular day the traffic police were conducting Ops Samseng to monitor road users, especially traffic offenders.

At about 11.30pm, the accused was spotted riding a motorcycle dangerously by doing a 'wheelie' stunt which endangered himself and other road users.

He was subsequently arrested near the Simpang Tiga roundabout.
