ALOR SETAR: Bukit Kayu Hitam General Operations Force (GOF) handed over a case involving the diversion of 1,688l of subsidised diesel to the Kedah branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry on Thursday (July 11).
The ministry's Kedah director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin said the case was handed over following a raid by the GOF at 9am on a warehouse in the Bukit Kayu Hitam industrial area, Malay language daily Sinar Harian.
He said that during the raid, a Thailand-registered trailer without cargo was found refuelling with diesel.
"Further inspections revealed that the premises held a wholesale licence for controlled goods and it was suspected of selling controlled goods to unauthorised parties.
"Inspection of the trailer also found an additional tank that had been modified to store controlled goods, namely diesel," Sinar Harian reported him as saying in a statement on Friday (July 12).
Nizam added that the raiding team seized a total of 1,688l of diesel estimated to be worth RM5,654.80, along with the Thai-registered trailer.
Muhammad Nizam said that the total estimated value of the seizure was RM105,654.80.
"As a result, a local man and a Thai man, both in their 20s and suspected of being involved in the diversion activities, were brought to the Jitra Magistrate's Court and have been remanded for four days for investigation purposes," he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 [Act 122].
